Riana Pfefferkorn is a member of the class of 2009 at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, where she founded the local chapter of the CopyNight monthly copyright discussion group. She is interested in the intersection between new technologies and civil liberties and hopes to make it her job to defend both as a public interest attorney. Prior to law school, Riana spent three years in the search engine industry, working for Google and CNET as well as freelancing. A San Francisco Bay Area native, she graduated in 2003 from Whitman College, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. She has discovered the answer to Avenue Q’s question, “What do you do with a B.A. in English?”, namely: “Go to law school.”
