High Court Hears Grokster File-Sharing Case - The Supreme Court heard oral arguments yesterday in MGM v. Grokster, in which content companies seek to hold peer-to-peer software developers liable for the widespreaed use of their products for illegal copying. The case is likely to have major implications for developers of new digital technologies and for free expression online. Justices raised hard questions about creating liability for develops of technology with both legal and illegal uses, but openly sought alternative approaches to hold bad actors liable, such as liability for "inducement" of illegal copying.
