Domain Names Group Moves Toward Open Election - CDT and other public interest groups welcomed steps taken by the international domain names management group to improve procedures for an unprecedented global election for the body's board of directors. The board of the Internet Corporation on Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) voted unanimously to increase accountability and representation in the election process by implementing direct elections. This was one of several recommendations by CDT and Common Cause following a three month long investigation of public interest issues in the ICANN elections. The at-large elections are intended to provide a voice in ICANN for individual Internet users around the world. March 10, 2000
