.us Open Registration Begins, Policy Council Announced - On April 24, NeuStar, the company operating the .us domain name, will begin accepting registrations for second-level domains like "yourname.us". This marks the first time that these kinds of names have been publicly available for .us; previously all .us domains had been placed in a geographical hierarchy. NeuStar has also announced the formation of a ten-member advisory council to assist it in setting policies for the new domain. Since policies set for .us will have a potentially broad impact on the American user community, CDT strongly believes that the consumer interest must be represented in any body addressing those policies. We were disappointed to see dedicated consumer advocates absent from the council's membership. April 24, 2002
