RIAA Sues for Names of Alleged File Sharers - The RIAA sued 532 unnamed computer users for illegally sharing copyrighted files online. The suits were filed against unidentified users because the expedited subpoena process that had been used by recording companies to get the names of alleged file sharers before filing suits was ruled to be unlawful in December, 2003. CDT has previously argued for Congressional intervention on the issue of expedited subpoenas for copyright holders in order to reconcile copyright enforcement with privacy and due process protections for Internet users.
