Appeals Court Shields Warrantless Wiretapping - A panel of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to dismiss a case brought by the ACLU challenging the legality of the Administration's warrantless wiretaps. The decision concluded that journalists, lawyers and others whose work involved contact with individuals overseas did not have "standing" to bring suit. This puts the burden squarely back on Congress to get the full story about the government's surveillance programs and ensure that the President is not left to operate outside the system of checks and balances.
